The Foundation was instrumental in establishing the John B. Ridley Research Library
in the Quetico Park Information Pavilion at the Dawson Trail Campground,
French Lake in the Park. Named for a founder, long-time Chair and major
benefactor of The Quetico Foundation, the Library offers visitors and
researchers access to a wealth of information and other resources. The
Library's collection focuses on the territory which makes up the Park from
prehistoric occupation to the present day and contains oral history tapes
and a collection of about 15,000 slides and photographs. (Some of these
historic photos are featured in the photo gallery on this site. Click here to have a look at the photos.)
The Library is operated by the Ministry of Natural Resources, and a professional librarian is available to assist with
research. The Library is located in the Quetico Park Information Pavilion at the French Lake. This is 180 km west of Thunder Bay on Highway #11, and is open to everyone, year round. During the Park season, the hours of opening are posted in the Information Pavilion. For off season opening, please call for an appointment (807) 929-2571 or (807) 929-3141.
